City of Edmonton To Consider Extension to Patio Program

At present, the City of Edmonton’s relaxing of rules around outdoor patios and sidewalk cafes expires on December 31, 2020. With some restaurant owners pushing for extensions to support the local hospitality industry, the City is exploring an extension to the program.

City spokesman Anthony Toderian said, “We have been hearing from businesses and associations that they would like to continue to operate their temporary patios into the colder months…Administration is investigating options for winter patios but a decision has not been finalized.”

The current guidelines allow for electric and propane heaters and one tent.
