Food Notes for February 28, 2011

Mack and I went to Calgary for the weekend for a short getaway. As much as I know that Edmonton is always competing with #yyc, Calgary is a very nice place to visit (even more so when you throw caution to the wind and stay in a fancy hotel). On to this week’s food notes:

  • I met up with my family at Urban China for lunch last week. I haven’t been back there for dim sum since my visit early last year, but from what I hear, they’ve really improved (it is now at the top of my parents’ list of dim sum favourites). The har gao and siu mai seemed particularly tasty.

  • Last time, the epic battle featured Mr. Bacon vs. Mr. Tofu, but in another death match with only one winner, who would survive: the corndog or broccoli?

  1. Thanks for the link regarding the db Bistro/Lumiere closing. I had the fortune and pleasure of dining at db Bistro last year during the Olympics. It was really good and it was the place that a few of the Canadian athletes held their celebrations at during that time.

  2. I haven’t tried Pampa, but I’ve enjoyed both of Calgary’s rodizio joints (Bolero and Gaucho). We’ve nicknamed them “meat coma”… It’s a fun evening but not one you’d want to undertake too often!

Clearly, that came from this referral and I thank you from the bottom of my heart! May all who read it come out March 23rd to meet this man and become informed about the importance of this issue.

  4. Buddha Pest – yes, I heard many good things about the two restaurants…hopefully something equally good goes into those spaces.

    Jenn – I’m sure I’d feel like I’d have to eat vegetarian for the following week after the meat buffet!

    Valerie – I’m not sure my blog is the only reason you received the spike in traffic, but always happy to help spread the word.

  5. Is that a Glenrothes you’re drinking there, Mack? A decent Scotch to be sure, but sweeter than most. I usually save for after dinner.

    Next time you’re at The Bothy and feeling adventurous O recommend Macallan 12, or Lagavulin 16.
