- Candid Coffee Roasters will be opening in Highlands next month, in the former Mandolin Books space. It is their second location.
- Late night grill Siu Yeh, which just had a successful pop-up at Filistix a few weeks ago, is working on their storefront for the new year.
- Overload Cheese has opened in Station Park at 8125 Gateway Boulevard, offering hot dogs, spud potatoes, and mocktails.
- I missed the opening of Woodshed Burger’s Sherwood Park location in November, at The Golf Den (975 Ordze Road).
- The first Poulet Rouge location out west has opened in West Edmonton Mall. The Quebec-based chain offers grilled chicken bowls.
Local News
- Intent Coffee, which for a time had a café at Southgate Mall, has rebranded to Balay Coffee. It will start with pop-ups to first test ideas before launching to bigger projects to ensure sustainability.
- Edify checked out Vetrina Café and The Lobster Mobsters.
- Also from Edify –they are gathering nominations for Edmonton’s best pizza.

- Prestigio Bakery changed hands last month.
- Some restaurants, including Chicken House, hope that the GST holiday (which started December 14) will encourage more customers.
- The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce is hoping the postal strike may have led some consumers to shop local by necessity, including visiting businesses like Jacek Chocolate Couture.
- The Journal featured Krispy Kreme, which has had consistent line-ups since opening on December 10.
- A new food bank, called The Afro-Caribbean Indigenous Food Bank, opened last week.
What I Ate
- My potluck contribution when I visited our Red Deer office last week was a couple of boxes of Rosewood Foods cruellers. Unsurprisingly, they were received like gangbusters!
